HOST STORY
Hamid Buzuku, at the peak of his career as a banker, decided to dedicate himself to private business – agritourism. It grew next to these olive trees. Hamid’s wife also worked in a bank. Before that, he was the manager of the Municipality of Ulcinj. These are all stressful jobs. At the age of less than 40, the married couple Buzuka “broke” and decided to fully devote themselves to the family estate.
The host honestly and openly says that after that decision he felt like he was reborn.
Staying in nature ennobles, relaxes… one feels relaxed. It’s good when a person does work that he fully enjoys.
The Buzuku family has been engaged in olive growing for centuries. In the last five years in the family olive grove, they created an original offer of agritourism, and the guests are mostly foreigners – Germans, Poles, English… The Buzuku brothers spontaneously started welcoming guests during the olive harvest. Tourists came with the desire to experience the olive harvest season. In a homely atmosphere, food is often prepared together, local specialties of this region, which creates a special experience for tourists. In Montenegro Olive Oil, both tourists and hosts live as one big family.
The Buzuku family is especially proud of the olive tree, which is over 1,300 years old. People came to see the “old lady” in the olive grove. First, they set up tents for the intending travelers to rest in the olive grove paradise, then over time they set up 10 log cabins, glamping, in the park of 500 hundred-year-old and millennial olive trees.
WHAT TO DO
The season at Montenegro Olive Oil starts from April and lasts until the end of the calendar year. This tourist complex has no competition in Montenegro and is ideal for an extended weekend for a complete vacation in nature.
A guest at Montenegro Olive Oil can choose from an active holiday to reading books or listening to music for relaxation. Each log cabin has its own terrace with a view of the sea. From the complex, a path leads to the sea, so in the summer months swimming is one of the usual activities. Many tourists come during the olive harvest and actively participate in the traditional picking, which is the authentic offer of Montenegro Olive Oil.
WHAT TO SEE
Montenegro Olive Oil is located less than two kilometers from the Old Town of Ulcinj, so a visit to the southernmost Montenegrin coastal town is a given. A stay in Montenegro Olive Oil should be used to go to the Valdanos lookout point, from which there is a beautiful view of the olive groves and Cape Mendra, on which there is a lighthouse, the only lighthouse on this side of the Adriatic where the lighthouse keeper – a man with his own hand lights the lights that sailors see when they pass through Otranto door.
There are medicinal beaches with sulfur water springs nearby, as well as the unique Great Sandy Beach. Ada Bojana is less than 15 kilometers away, and the left branch of the river is the natural border with Albania. For active guests, it is not far, because the Old Town of Bar, the Old Olive Tree, and the Djidžarin olive grove with about 10,000 olive trees are about 20 kilometers away.
