HOST STORY

Ilija Klisić is the owner of the largest vineyard in Crmnica, far and wide known for its quality local wines.

It has over 10,000 vines from which it harvests an average of 15,000 kilograms of top-quality grapes. Klisić applies in practice the oenologist’s recommendation that top-quality wines are made in the vineyard, so there are about 1.5 kilograms of grapes on one vine. Varieties are: Vranac, Cabernet, Merlot, White Muscat… It is interesting that the owner Ilija Klisić started working on the estate when he retired. He restored his father’s vineyards, planted new ones, arranged a cellar where he welcomes guests from all over the world in a homely manner.

“For me, every guest was one or 101 as a member of the household and I dedicate myself equally to him”.

Numerous medals from international competitions and fairs, which tourists can see when they come to the Klisić Winery, prove that he dedicates himself to both the vineyard and the wine.

WHAT TO DO?

Activities in the Klisić household last throughout the year, and as the host says, if you have you never rest the vineyard. The village has its holdings all 12 months, but the end of August and September have a slight advantage due to the grape harvest. Don’t miss this experience.

The road to top quality wine is long and demanding. Whatever time of year you visit the Klisić winery, you can join the hosts in their regular activities. From February, pruning of fruit and vines begins, followed by agro-technical protection measures, and then special care for each branch that needs to be prepared for quality fruit. Spring is also the time for planting vegetable crops that will serve your guests during the summer. While the various grape varieties slowly ripen in the Crmic sun, during the summer the plum harvest begins, from which the delicious jams of the housewife Branka will be made, and some will be fermented and wait for the time to become brandy – a local alcoholic drink. During the summer, by helping to harvest plums, apricots and other fruits, you will not only feel useful, but you will also be able to enjoy the fruits directly picked from the tree.

During October, the production of young wines begins, and in November, everyone gathers around the “happy machine” – the production of brandy begins.

WHAT TO SEE?

Next to the vineyards of Ilija Klisić is the church of St. Thomas, after which the wine got its name. In Limljania, you will see and hear the story of an architectural miracle, the church of St. Thomas, which was moved by a landslide over 100 meters, rotated by 45 degrees, and thus this religious building has stood on the cliff for over 120 years. From the Klisić Winery, the view opens up to the Sutorman mountain, and it is recommended that during your stay in this village, you must climb to the top of Vrsuta 1183m/asl, from which you can enjoy a divine view of the Skadar Lake National Park and the coast of the Bar Riviera.
